ALDs at the Library

It’s amazing what can happen when you just ask and are willing to advocate for yourself.

In February I went on a advocating frenzy, tired of feeling left out and feeling for anyone else who felt left out. I requested CART for a writers workshop I want to attend in May, requested an ALD at the downtown library for a reading from local authors and left comments on news sites in regards to hearing loss. There’s a Paulo Coelho quote: Life has many ways of testing a person’s will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen all at once.” Right after I posted about my advocating adventures, life erupted and picked up speed. I had a hard time keeping track of what all I had to do, where I had to be and when. This is why I haven’t posted much in the last month. I think things are slowing down again and today I have time…

Back to where I started (kinda)

When i started this blog in 2011, I didn’t see where it would go, what it would become. I didn’t see the people I would meet, the people who would read it, or the friends that would come from it. I only knew I needed to write again, I only knew that it would be about my life, my hopes, my triumphs, my fears, my highs and lows… And mostly about being deaf in a hearing world. Lately I have noticed it’s changed. Is become so much about my CIs and not enough about anything else.
For this reason, I’m going to start writing about all things deaf again, not just my CIs. Yes they will still play a part, but for the last year and a half they have consumed my blog… And  will  to change… So I don’t feel as if I’m loosing myself to my implants. Just a heads up to the people who read.

Eyes

So… I’m now having issues with my eyes… and I apologize right now for any spelling issues, I’m typing on my phone with dialated eyes… so I am seeing a bit double and reading what I’ve written is hard. I’m having black spots and they have increased in number I’m also having some weird red bubble on my left eye. Went to the eye doctor today… and I need new glasses and to actually use my glasses… but it was kinda scary when she said she needed to send me to a medical eye doctor right away…
Now because of this short notice… this also means I have no interpreter… so here is to hoping I can understand… I’ll update when I get a chance. I’ve been super busy… did you know eye dilation is a pain? Because it is.

odd pain…

so… this is something that never happend with the first implant. I’m having an odd pain, where my implant actually sits. it doesn’t matter if the implant is on or off, but its there. Its not sharp, its kinda dull… but its there. the magnet isn’t too tight, and even when its off for a while, the pain is still there… anyone think it is something to be worried about?

5 days post surgery

so 5 days ago I was waking up from my second surgery in a year… I was in recovery, most likely vomiting a little.

well, today I am back at work, I’m not sure how long I will be able to stay today… but I am here, and that is a step. I’m doing fairly well… the only big issue I’ve come across… is a stupid, frustrating cold. With the inability to blow my nose for a few weeks… this cold is seriously kicking my butt. I’m sitting with a pile of tissues next to me, because I can’t actually blow my nose… they are getting stuck up my nose… which means my nose is complaining… enough about buggers though…

Pain wise, I’m doing really well. No longer taking pain meds (the vicodin I was given) but taking ibuprofen and tylenol. my head is itching… but as long as it stays covered in “goo” its ok. Healing wise, it looks about the same as last time, but he did shave noticeably less hair this time!
